Why Visit?

Harrietville was properly named in 1861 after a woman called Harriet Tisdale, one of the few white women living in this area at the time. In 1879 Harrietville was proclaimed a town. Its history is captured in a riverside park that celebrates the local pioneers, and is a pleasant spot to picnic or stretch your legs. There are lots of great places for lunch or a leisurely afternoon tea. If you’re properly equipped and fit, you can take the walking tracks to Mount Hotham or Mount Feathertop, in the Alpine National Park, which are challenging but spectacular. Harrietville currently thrives on tourism and the ski industry and is definitely a beautiful township providing a relaxing and ideal holiday destination.
